MENLO PARK, CALIF. (September 17, 2008) – Jaxtr, the company that links your phone to the Web, announces the hiring of Bahman Koohestani as Vice President of Engineering and the promotion of Chung Meng Cheong to Vice President of Products. The two new executives will play a vital role in shaping the company's global, social communications solutions as jaxtr matures and continues its path toward profitability in 2009.
Bahman Koohestani joins jaxtr from social network Cyworld, where as the Chief Technology Officer he was instrumental in shaping Cyworld's global strategy to connect and attract a social community of over 40 million members worldwide. Prior to Cyworld, Bahman served as the CTO of Orbitz Worldwide where he conceived and delivered the first Global Online Travel Platform. Prior to Orbitz, Bahman co-founded and took public Delano Technology. "Bahman's experience in communications, commerce and social networks coupled with his passion for the consumer experience make him ideally suited to lead jaxtr's engineering team," said jaxtr CEO Konstantin Guericke. Prior to Orbitz, Bahman was VP Messaging Technology at Netscape. Bahman graduated from York University with a B.Sc. in Computer Science.
Chung Meng Cheong joined jaxtr in December 2007 as Senior Director of Products. In his new role, Chung is responsible for product management, analytics and front-end design. "Jaxtr is a unique global product that's driving innovation in both the mobile and social sectors," said Guericke. "In the space of less than a year, Chung has led the creation of café jaxtr, the world's first talk network. He also launched our first paid service, which allows jaxtr members to call anyone in the world directly from their mobile, without a software download and with rates starting at $0.01 per minute. During these efforts, Chung exhibited the product vision, zeal for jaxtr's members and business mindset required by this demanding leadership position." Prior to jaxtr, Chung held leadership positions focused on product and market development with eBay, Elance and Microsoft. Chung holds an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management.
